Governing and Advisory Boards play an important role in senior centers by establishing policies, setting standards, and offering advice to senior center staff in order to improve programs and services offered in centers.

Senior centers are required to obtain various permits and licenses in order to operate on a daily basis, serve food, and hold special events. They are also subject to unannounced safety and fire inspections.
